WORKSHOPS
Milonguero-Nuevo for Social Dance Floors

During the Heidelberg Live Weekend, we invite you to explore the core artistic vision of our school: Milonguero-Nuevo.
We understand Tango as a living, evolving social dance. Our approach merges the intimacy, groundedness, and refined connection of the traditional Milonguero close embrace with the elasticity, dynamic possibilities, and expanded musical interpretation of Tango Nuevo. The result is a compact, contemporary, and highly musical way of dancing—designed specifically for social dance floors.
Throughout the weekend, Emile Sansour and Simge Yüz offer five interconnected workshops dedicated to this fusion.
Workshop Structure
• Friday sets the technical foundation with rhythmic precision.
• Saturday and Sunday feature four progressive workshops that deepen dynamics, musicality, and compact movement concepts within close embrace. These workshops are part of a progressive training concept developed within our school.
(Additional information on “Master Class” available separately.)
Participants may book the full workshop series or individual workshops.
Workshop 1
Rhythmic Accents – Inspired by Juan D’Arienzo
Friday, May 22 | 17:45–19:00
D’Arienzo is known as the “King of the Beat.” In this workshop, we focus on sharp, staccato footwork within close embrace. We work with micro-rebounds and quick weight changes that allow you to hit strong musical accents without disturbing the connection. The emphasis lies on how to create high energy and rhythmic precision while keeping the upper body calm and stable.
Workshop 2
Variety of Turns in Vals – Harmonious and Flowing
Saturday, May 23 | 11:30–12:45
Vals requires continuous flow and circular movement. We explore how an elastic embrace supports smooth, connected turn sequences. The focus is on dissociation, comfortable pivots, and efficient rotation that allow couples to move effortlessly across the floor—even in crowded spaces.
Workshop 3
The “Cachivache” Pulse – Controlled Chaos
Saturday, May 23 | 12:45–14:00
El Cachivache’s music is raw, driving, and powerful. In this workshop, we work with grounding and dynamic contrast: using the floor to create sudden stops, pauses, and changes in intensity. The goal is to translate high energy into clear, controlled movement rather than speed alone.
Workshop 4
Dancing to Mixed Music in Small Spaces
Sunday, May 24 | 11:30–12:45
Neo-Tango, Non-Tango, and complex orchestras often lack a clear walking beat. We focus on suspension, slow motion, and isolated movements to interpret melody and phrasing rather than rhythm alone. This workshop develops adaptability and musical sensitivity in limited space.
Workshop 5
Micro-Nuevo – Alterations & Ganchos in Close Embrace
Sunday, May 24 | 12:45–14:00
In this final workshop, we explore how Nuevo mechanics can be integrated into close embrace. We work with Alterations and Micro-Ganchos, learning how to create internal space within the embrace for leg wraps and direction changes without opening the hold. The emphasis is on timing, precision, and refined internal dissociation.
