Master Class

In recent years, the interest of dancers wishing for more intensive training sessions has grown significantly – beyond our regular Level 1-6 courses and weekend workshops. In response, we have established the Master Class for particularly dedicated dancers within the Intango Tango Center Heidelberg.

This is not just another dance class. It is a comprehensive journey for all those who do not view tango as a mere hobby. In over 100 hours of intensive training (approx. 10 hours per month), we bridge the gap from the fundamentals to “state of the art.”

The Content

Vocabulary and Structure of Tango
From basics to advanced combinations:

– Walks, Ochos, and Cortados
– Paradas and Pasadas
– Calesitas and conscious pauses
– Lápiz and Counter-Lápiz: Directional and dynamic variations of the classic Lápiz
– Barridas
– Giros: Left and right turns, variations and diversity of turns
– Ganchos: Types, techniques, and variations
– Boleos: From basics to the diversity of Boleos (rhythmic, melodic, elastic)
– Sacadas: Simple and multiple Sacadas for leading and following dancers; combinations with rhythmic patterns
– Enrosques: Positions, technique, and combinations with Sacadas and Boleos
– Changes of direction of elements – and in space
– Volcadas
– Soltadas: For leading and following dancers, in combination with other elements
– Colgadas: From mechanics and basics to multiple Colgadas

The Tango Styles
A complete immersion into Canyengue, Salón, Milonguero, and Nuevo. Differences, commonalities, and compatibility of styles. Not all tango is the same.

Technique, Anatomy, and Mechanics of Movement
Understanding the “tango body” to execute movements. We analyze movements and dynamics to create harmony and stability – where strength originates and how it is used to specifically refine leading, following, and solo technique.

Musicality and Dynamics
Developing a deep understanding of the rhythmic structure of Tango, Milonga, and Vals.

The Art of Communication in Leading and Following

The Art of Presence
How to show presence at a milonga, dance confidently, and develop into an outstanding social dancer.

Who can apply?

We are looking for tango dancers who aspire to a versatile, international level. This course is for you if:

– Tango is your passion, and you bring resilience and endurance to training.
– You aim to perform or be a strong tango dancer at milongas.
– You identify with the Intango philosophy and wish to carry its values forward.

Admission Requirements

At Intango, we cultivate a community of milonguer@s – not mere consumers.

We are looking for people who:

– Give back: you are not just a “taker,” but want to contribute, think along, and actively participate in the growth of the local community (even beyond the Master Class).
– Are committed: you understand the role Intango plays in the Heidelberg scene and are dedicated to its development and success.
– Invest: you are willing to invest time, energy, and attention into this 100-hour journey.

Emile’s Personal Conclusion

Dear ones,

The seminars that Simge and I give together are much more than just a schedule item for me. They are a matter of the heart. We invest all our know-how, a lot of energy, and also private time to accompany you very closely and intensively.

And yes: I absolutely want you to become the best dancer you can be. But – and this is important to me – it’s not just about you.

I’ll say it openly, because it’s important to me: It’s NOT just about you.

I don’t want dancers in my courses who are solely focused on their own ego. I’m not looking for mere consumers who “collect” knowledge and then disappear again.

For me, it’s about tango and what Intango stands for. I’m looking for people who feel a sense of belonging and are eager to truly contribute. Please don’t just be takers, but givers. Get involved, give back to the community, and be part of something bigger instead of just consuming.

If you share this idea and understand what I mean, then please feel free to apply. I look forward to having you in the group.

Your Emile

New Generation Milongueros

This project is aimed at young people and students and offers the opportunity to acquire in-depth knowledge of various tango styles and to build a bridge between tradition and innovation within the local and international tango scene.

Participants are invited to intensively engage with Argentine Tango and its culture in practice. The program combines regular courses, dance evenings, and weekend seminars. It enables participants to learn intensively to continuously improve their dance skills and gain a deeper understanding of the ongoing development of tango.

In addition to technical training, the program fosters a supportive learning environment where participants connect with other dancers and mentors. This network promotes accountability, reflection, and personal and artistic development within the tango scene in Heidelberg and beyond.

The goal of New Generation Milongueros is to welcome and train young tanguer@s to establish a strong young tango scene, enabling them to actively carry on the legacy of tango.

New Generation Milongueros is for young dancers and students who want to grow beyond regular courses and become active members of the Intango community.

Intango Seminar Series

At the Tango Center Heidelberg, our goal is to actively shape the tango world by supporting dancers, teachers, and organizers in building a solid foundation for their work.

We recognize that dancing, teaching, and organizing are three distinct areas – each with its own mindset and skill set.

We know that:

  • One can be an excellent dancer without being a good teacher.
  • An average dancer or even a non-dancer can become a good event organizer.

And of course, all three skills can be developed, each in its own time.

For this reason, we offer this seminar series and share our four decades of experience from the development of Intango. Our goal is not to offer shortcuts or rigid formulas, but to provide orientation, clarity, and space for structured learning in each discipline.

Our training program is divided into three independent parts. Participants can register for one module or for several modules.

Module 1: The Organizer’s Compass

This module is for anyone who wants to lead a tango project, run a school, or organize events. With four decades of experience in tango, we examine how projects grow, change, and evolve – without relying on rigid models. You will gain practical insights from real-world experience that will help you navigate changes and make informed decisions. We share our experience and knowledge; how you apply this depends on your own work and context.

Key Areas and Topics

Project: How to approach your initiative and what it requires.

Workflows: What you need to know for success – planning and implementation.

Growth: How to establish a project and foster its expansion.

Costs & Pricing: Setting prices – program offerings, program costs.

Marketing: Advertising and engaging the community.

Value Creation: Your most important contribution to our tango community.

Team Selection: Choosing the right people who understand your project’s goals – and who to avoid 😉

Module 2: Tango Teachers – Guides and Content for Tango Instruction

This module supports dancers who want to start teaching or improve their teaching skills. Through short presentations and practical exercises, we explore the core principles of clear and flexible tango instruction. You will receive content for each of your lessons, based on years of experience. How you adapt this depends on your individual focus and practice. The module is aimed at aspiring and experienced tango teachers, as well as anyone interested in designing effective instruction.

Key Areas and Topics

Designing the lesson

What students need to know for their progress

Your responsibilities as a teacher

Understanding students’ goals and needs and providing them with value

How to integrate your students into tango culture

Practical teaching: Trial lesson, Level 1 to 4

Module 3: Tango Dancers – Improve Your Dance Quality: Deepen Your Knowledge, Technique, Style, and Musicality

This module is part of the Master Class, which takes place two weekends each month. It is aimed at dancers who want to learn and refine their technique, style, and musicality. The focus is on principles, awareness, and adaptability in various tango styles. Emile’s four decades of experience and his contribution to the development of tango are incorporated. Participants receive structured guidance and exercises; individual progress depends on their concentration and personal commitment. The module is suitable for dancers who want to deepen their technical understanding, integrate different styles, and generally improve their dance quality.

Key Areas and Topics

Past, Present, and Future

The structure of individual tango styles (Canyengue, Salon, Milonguero, and Nuevo)

Training of selected elements, combinations, and sequences of these styles

Focus: Milonguero and Nuevo

Consciously mixing styles

Current developments, improvisation, and innovation

Musicality: Diversity and tempo changes

Who can participate?

Please apply to us if you

  • want to build your own tango project or tango school – also in cooperation with us – or
  • want to work with Intango and contribute to our school, our events, and projects, or
  • want to deepen your tango knowledge and use it responsibly in our community, then you are in the right place. It is not important to us what you do later, but how you do it. Learning with us means transparently showing where your knowledge comes from and respecting the work behind it.

This program is NOT for individuals who wish to use Intango material for their personal branding or position themselves in competition with our work.

If this way of working appeals to you, we look forward to your application.
