We invite you to an extraordinary tango weekend in Heidelberg – a rare opportunity to visit this enchanting city while experiencing three world-class tango orchestras live on stage in a single weekend.
What to expect:
Orquesta Romantica Milonguera – the legendary orchestra from Buenos Aires
La Juan D’Arienzo – the spectacular 10-piece orchestra
El Cachivache Orkesta – the raw, high-energy tango-punk orchestra
Alongside the concerts, our DJs will create a vibrant weekend with afternoon and evening milongas. The program is complemented by the workshop format “Milonguero-Nuevo for Social Dancefloors” with Emile Sansour and Simge Yüz – focusing on social dance, musicality, and conscious orientation on the floor.
Look forward to a musical firework display of tango in Heidelberg.

Workshops
Milonguero-Nuevo for the Social Dancefloor
As part of the Heidelberg Live Weekend, Emile Sansour and Simge Yüz are offering five workshops.
The focus is on the Milonguero-Nuevo style: maintaining a close embrace while integrating elements of Nuevo. All workshops are consistently geared toward practical application in social dancing.
The workshops can be booked as a complete series or individually.
Workshop 1
Can you keep the pace?
Friday, May 22 | 5:45 PM – 7:00 PM
This workshop is dedicated to fast, driving music such as that of Juan D’Arienzo.
We work with quick weight changes and precise footwork in a close embrace. The goal is to set clear musical accents while keeping the upper body stable.
Workshop 2
Constant Movement in Vals
Saturday, May 23 | 11:30 AM – 12:45 PM
The focus is on continuous turning movements and a fluid, circular dance.
We work with pivots and rotations (giros, enrosques, colgadas), supported by an elastic embrace. The goal is effortless movement – even when there is little space on the dancefloor.
Workshop 3
Dancing to El Cachivache
Saturday, May 23 | 12:45 PM – 2:00 PM
This workshop is aimed at powerful, high-energy music like that of El Cachivache Orkesta.
We work with grounding, abrupt stops, and deliberate pauses. The goal is to transform high energy into controlled movement – not just speed.
Workshop 4
How we dance to the melody
Sunday, May 24 | 11:30 AM – 12:45 PM
This is about dancing without a clear walking base pulse.
We work with suspension and slowed-down movement qualities to follow the melody and phrasing. This strengthens adaptability – especially on crowded dancefloors.
Workshop 5
Nuevo in Close Embrace
Sunday, May 24 | 12:45 PM – 2:00 PM
The focus is on integrating Nuevo elements without giving up the close embrace.
We work with ganchos and changes of direction, emphasizing internal space and elasticity within the embrace.
