Tango Center Heidelberg

Our next step – passing on experience

Since 1993, as Heidelberg’s first tango school, we have shaped the regional tango culture and established Argentine Tango in the Rhine-Neckar region for the long term. We promote and spread the intangible UNESCO World Heritage “Tango Argentino” in Heidelberg and the entire region – through qualified instruction, cultural events, and international encounters.

“For over three decades, Intango has shaped how we learn and pass on tango. With Emile, who now lives in Oldenburg and teaches with us on selected weekends, we consciously decided to create a long-term framework that offers our community stability, continuity, and space for development here in Heidelberg.

The Tango Center Heidelberg is the structural backbone of our work – a shared place for our teaching philosophy, our way of learning, and the long-term development of dancers and teachers. It connects the vision Emile started with to the values that have shaped Intango from the beginning, leading them responsibly into the future.”

– Simge & Silvana

Values & Vision

For over 30 years, we have stood for profound Tango expertise and unforgettable Tango experiences.

These values shape our work and our understanding of tango:

Authenticity instead of show – we work honestly on presence, musicality, and real connection. Our teaching methods strengthen your individual tango personality, not outward effects.

Innovation & the courage to evolve – we think tango forward, question the status quo, and develop the Milonguero-Nuevo style as a contemporary blend of closeness, musicality, and dynamics.

Milonguero culture with a future – we take responsibility for a respectful, vibrant, and conscious scene and promote a high-level milonga culture with supra-regional appeal.

Community & regional responsibility – As a cultural institution of the city, we strengthen Heidelberg as a place for sophisticated, reflected, and authentic tango. A culture where the ronda flows, the music inspires, and space is created for everyone – without dogmatism or stylistic boundaries.

Expertise & quality for over 30 years – we teach with clear methodology and continuously evolve to sustainably guide and support dancers.

Unique, culturally rich tango experiences – we create events that touch people, connect them, and bring international tango culture to Heidelberg: with great orchestras, first-class DJs, outstanding artists, and the city’s unique historic dance floors.

Our Origin – Our Attitude

“Whenever I’m asked, I claim that tango is an art form. To keep this art alive and spread it, I have made it my mission to convey the fascination of this art to people and show them a way to find their ‘best self’ and keep learning. To realize these ideas, you have to build a scene that takes exactly that to heart.”

Emile Sansour, Heidelberg 1994

This thought remains relevant today. It forms the foundation of our work, our vision, and our contribution to a vibrant tango culture in Heidelberg and beyond.

6. Understanding tango as a whole – not just dancing

At Intango, you learn from the start what tango is at its core – not just individual figures and steps. You learn how tango works, not just what to dance: through the music, clear movement, and real connection between both partners.

Our classes build on each other step by step and combine technique, musicality, and body awareness into a clear and easy-to-follow learning path.
With two teachers per course, you experience both roles and get a balanced feel for how tango works.
You don’t need any previous knowledge – and perfection is not our goal. Mistakes are explicitly encouraged.
They show development instead of limits and make your learning path vibrant, safe, and sustainable.

7. Tango as lived culture – supported by a strong community

Tango is a cultural practice that connects people and gives them space to unfold. Many discover balance, presence, new perspectives through tango – and often friendships that last beyond the dance.

We want to further develop Heidelberg as a place for a conscious, strong, and responsible tango culture. This includes a lived milonga culture and a community that carries and continues these values.

With us, you become part of a community that doesn’t just consume tango, but actively shapes it, lives it with responsibility, and develops it further – on the dance floor and beyond.
